Review: WordTracker

How To Instantly Mine Pure Gold From Wordtracker's Database

Find out how with John Alexander's remarkable eBook...

Why I use WordTracker as my Number One Search Engine Positioning Tool.

Search engine optimization begins with finding the most profitable keywords and phrases.

Using the right tool to identify the best keywords has a huge impact on search engine placement.

In common with a lot of people, my first experience of using a tool to find the best keywords and phrases for a site page was with Overture, formerly GoTo.com.

Their free tool opened my eyes to the fact that the words and phrases I was using on a particular site page didn't necessarily match with the words and phrases being used by people who came to that page via search engines.

My next experience with a keyword tool was within the broad range of site creation and promotion resources included within Site Build It!

With that tool, I discovered that not only could I unearth the most popular keywords, but could also find strong keywords that were by and large being ignored by competing sites. In other words, I could find words and phrases that were potentially very profitable. Low supply, high demand.

And that brings me to WordTracker.

WordTracker is an online keyword generator that compares your keyword queries to a database of over 350 million searches drawn from Metacrawler and Dogpile. In other words, your search for the best keywords is being drawn from a vast selection of terms that are being used by millions of people, day by day.

Before I get into various features that make WordTracker so useful, let me tell you the one thing that makes it absolutely golden as far as I'm concerned.

As with the Site Build It tool, WordTracker uses a supply and demand equation that shows you the words and phrases that people are using right now - but which aren't being used my many competing sites. In other words, they identify the most profitable words.

They call this 'KEI Analysis'. The real bonus here is that you can run the analysis against specific search engines, directories and pay-per-bid engines.

Yes, Google may be the big gorilla, and if you can find some very profitable, high traffic words and phrases for Google, so much the better. But that doesn't mean you should be ignoring Yahoo!, MSN, Overture and others. In fact, when the pickings look slim on Google, you may well find some relevant words and phrases that score very highly in one or more of the other engines or directories.

Like I said, to me the KEI Analysis feature, across multiple engines, is the core reason I use WordTracker. And I use it on an almost daily basis.

Other features.

- Create and manage many separate projects for different sites or pages, and store your keywords separately for each.

- Keep adding keywords to your project baskets, by the thousands if you want.

- Email or export your lists from the site, so you have them on your own hard drive.

- Get results on singular, plural, upper and lower case. (It's amazing the difference you'll often find between the singular and plural versions of a particular word.)

How to subscribe.

There are a number of subscription options for WordTracker. The first thing you can look at is their free trial. It's great for getting a feel for how the system works, but I wouldn't recommend it for any kind of serious project.

Beyond that, you can sign up on a daily, weekly, monthly or annual basis. For myself, I went straight to the annual subscription, simply because I knew I'd want to use the tool on a regular basis, not just for one particular day, week or month.

My conclusions? I love it and use it a great deal...both to improve page rankings and also to better understand what readers are looking for when they arrive the sites I'm working on.
