'Outside
Opinion for Small Business' is a fixed format, fixed-price home page critique
service for smaller companies and organizations.
It's the junior version
of the full Outside Opinion website evaluation service I offer for larger
companies. The full version costs several thousand dollars and the report
can run to fifty or even a hundred pages. Past clients for the full service
include: Getty Trust, AOL, MSN, Wells Fargo, Intuit, Business Objects
and others.

For some time I have
wanted to find a way to offer the same insights and advice to smaller
companies. What I have come up with is a fixed format approach that looks
at the home page only. (That doesn't mean I don't look at lower-level
pages. I do. But the report covers the home page only.)
The 14 Points
With this service
I start by sending you a short questionnaire. Working with your answers
and your current home page, I then write the report based on the following
points.
The Fundamentals:
1. Is your homepage 'on purpose'?
2. Do you tell people what they can expect from your site?
3. Is your homepage focused on your visitors or on your business?
4. Does your page speak to your visitors' expectations?
5. Are your key messages on the first screen?
Get the Message Right:
6. Do you have a great headline?
7. Do you tell people what to do?
8. Do your links clearly describe the way forward?
9. Does your page copy drive action?
10. Do your text and links help people find what they want?
Engage your Visitors:
11. Is your homepage easy to read?
12. Do you say 'something worth talking about'?
13. Does your homepage engage your visitors?
14. Does your homepage build confidence?
Pricing
This is a fixed-price
service -- a critique of your home page based on the 14 points above.
The price is $400, half payable up-front. The means of payment is through
PayPal.
