A Web Copywriting Tip by Nick Usborne
In the last tip I talked a little about how web content writers need a little of the 'Copywriter Inside'. When you're writing content for the web, you also need to help people move ahead and maintain a forward momentum.
Now for the other side of the coin - the task faced by copywriters online.
For copywriters online, it is not enough simply to sell. Yes, copywriters need to write their text in a way to maximize sales. But you also need to recognize that readers online come with a different set of expectations than when they are reading an ad in a magazine, or a piece of direct mail.
Online, readers are much more analytical and engaged. They are not just casually glancing at an ad. They are deliberately looking for something. They are also looking for more information than they would expect or want from an offline promotion.
As a result, online copywriters not only have to sell, but also need to provide the information their readers are looking for.
Go for the sale, but be more informative than you would be offline. In other words, every online copywriter needs a little of the 'Content Writer Inside'.
