A Web Copywriting Tip by Nick Usborne
There's more to this subject than I can cover in just one tip. However, here are two short pieces of advice for anyone writing a web site landing page...
One: Stay focused on a single topic.
In other words, don't try to achieve more than one objective on that page.
Stay focused, keep it simple and make sure you drive people towards a single objective.
Everything - the headline, images, design, call to action - should all move the reader forward in a single direction, without distractions.
Two: Scale down on outbound links on a landing page.
The idea is to create a funnel...to move people forward and encourage them to take a single, particular action. You don't want to distract them with numerous other links, including your site navigation links.
For a lot more information and dozens of before and after examples, you might want to invest in a copy of MarketingSherpa's report, "Landing Page Handbook - How to Raise Conversions".
