A Web Copywriting Tip by Nick Usborne
For those who come to your site on a regular basis, there is something a little unsettling about finding the exact same homepage text on every visit. When nothing changes from visit to visit, people may get the impression that 'nobody is home'.
If you can, find some element that you can update on a regular basis. Give some indication that your site is current, alive, evolving.
Here are a few things you could try:
- Links to new articles or newsletter archives
- Timely and relevant news feeds
- Short text on new products, services or price introductions
- Announcements about new studies, results, white papers, testimonials etc
Try to keep all or any of these areas clearly focused on the interests and needs of your visitors. News about your own company or links to your latest press releases will be a lot less interesting and engaging for most of your readers.
In other words, keep your home page current in a way that serves your visitors' needs.
And avoid the cardinal sin of keeping obviously out-of-date information on your homepage. It shows you'r not paying attention.
