Too Many Choices Reduces Conversion Rates

A Web Copywriting Tip by Nick Usborne

 

Whatever you are writing, whether it's a web page, an email or a newsletter, be careful not to overwhelm your readers with too many choices.

 

You are probably familiar with that feeling in the offline world. You're in the supermarket and want to buy a box of tissues. You look at the shelves and there are 42 different choices. You freeze, and think to yourself, "For crying out loud, all I want is some tissues. Why do they have to make it so hard for me?"

 

We get overwhelmed with too many choices. Keep that in mind when writing promotions. How many product choices should you place on one page? How many links in that email? How many images and descriptions in that newsletter?

 

The fewer the choices, the easier you make it for your reader.
