Why do I even have a Site Build It Site?

I have been asked this question a number of times recently.

People ask me why I would spend time developing and writing an SBI site when I already make a handsome living as an online copywriter and consultant.

It’s a reasonable question.

After all, if I add up all the hours I have spent on my SBI site over the last 12 months, the figure is a little scary.

And it’s true that I could have made more money by using that time to write for more clients, and pick up more consulting work.

But I don’t have my SBI site as a means to make extra money for right now. It does, which is a bonus. But that’s not the reason why I started it.

My Site Build It Site is my pension plan

Or, to be completely honest, it’s a part of my pension plan.

As a freelancer I make a good living. But I’m 50 years old now. Or 50 years young. And I don’t want to be picking up the phone and hustling for new writing work when I’m 70. Not even when I’m 60.

And as a freelancer, I have no pension plan to look forward to. So I have been slowly creating sites that generate a monthly income.

For a few years now I have had a couple of sites devoted to copywriting, both of which make me some money. I started with those, because they address a topic I know a lot about.

But I’m cautious. I didn’t want my future income tied just to one relatively small audience.

So I decided to create a site about coffee.

Then I chose Site Build It as my “platform”.

Why? For a number of reasons.

But they all boil down to the fact that I trust the SBI process.

Believe me, that last sentence counts for something. Like I said, I’m a cautious person. And if SBI didn’t have my complete trust, I wouldn’t be investing so much time in it.

So cautious, in fact, that I would be creating this pension plan even if I were employed...

Like I said, I have no pension plan, because I’m not an employee.

But even if I were employed by a big company, putting money aside for retirement day, I’d still be working on my sites.

Why? Because I don’t trust big companies. That may not be a very upbeat attitude. But I don’t.

To be honest, I wouldn’t trust my future income to anyone but myself.

So that’s why I’m working on CoffeeDetective.com, my first SBI site.

And it probably won’t be my last.

I can already see some related topic areas within the site that warrant new sites of their own.

So I’ll keep moving forward, cautiously. Until I’m generating a nice fat monthly income from my web sites, and can retire from my freelance work.

Finally, just for the pleasure of it...

Take a few moments to watch this video, made by an SBI owner, all about "the way of the tortoise". It's really good...
