This takes me back a few years. I didn't start out writing for the financial market, but it's where I learned my skills as a direct marketing copywriter.
At that time I had some great clients and a wonderful mentor who would slap me around the head whenever my sales copy was running in anything other than fifth gear.
"Nick, you're writing with the brakes on!"
I wrote for big banks like Citibank, investment companies like Fidelity...and I wrote some super-successful mailings for an independent mutual fund advisor.
To be honest, it's with this last client that I learned the most. I wrote a package a week for almost a year and made him millions.
Is this the right copywriting niche for you?
Maybe it is. If you are worried that you don't have deep knowledge of the money business, don't be. Nor did I. That's what research is for.
If you do have an interest in the financial and investment markets, so much the better.
But here's the number one reason for building your skills as a direct response financial copywriter...
***There's a ton of work, and the pay can be remarkable***
About AWAI's course, "Secrets of Writing for the Financial Market"
I have written a number of reviews for courses from the American Writers and Artists Institute. And for a good reason. They know their business and create courses that are genuinely useful and packed with hundreds of pages of shared knowledge and expertise.
This course is as good as any of them.
Here's a taste of what you get in the package:
- A list of over 300 major financial companies to get you started
- A full glossary of all the terms you might come across and need to use as a financial copywriter
- CD interviews with Clayton Makepeace, Bill Hebden and other top copywriters
- A thick binder packed with page after page on how to write great financial copy, how to get started, how to find your first client, how to negotiate top fees
- And a lot more...
Concluding thoughts...
I've said it many times before: to make big money as a copywriter you need to find a niche -- a single, focused area in which you can grow to a level of true excellence.
And when you're looking for that niche, it does no harm to point yourself in the direction of an industry that pays big fees for good work.
The financial industry has served me very well as a copywriter, and I recommend this course as an excellent way for anyone to get their start.
