A copywriting career - how to get started

If you want a career in copywriting, there are two ways to go -- get a job with an ad agency or work as a freelance copywriter. (Hint: as a freelancer you get to achieve a 6-figure income much faster than you can in an agency.)

I started out as an agency junior copywriter a long time ago. The experience was great, but yes, it was a long haul before I started to earn a decent salary. And I never did achieve a six-figure income until I started working for myself as a freelance copywriter.

Is it possible to build a successful copywriting career as a freelancer?

Yes it is. Thousands of people are doing exactly this. It's hard work, just like building any business. But there are some great benefits - like making a very good income and being able to work from home.

But as with any area of expertise, you have to learn the ropes. You have to learn the skills of copywriting, and you have to learn how to promote, manage and grow your freelance copywriting business.
